Onemda launches new Therapy & Innovation Centre

Onemda, a centre for learning and therapeutic development for people with a disability is proud to launch the new multi-million dollar Therapy & Innovation Centre. The Centre aims to create a ‘live’ testing environment generating avenues to translate and embed ideas learnt from research and technology innovation to directly influence the way we support, educate and engage with people with a disability.

It brings together practitioners, academics and innovators committed to challenging contemporary practice and exploring new ideas enabling people with disabilities to be engaged and exposed to the latest advances in therapy, technology and evidence based practice.

With the introduction of the NDIS, a world first social reform, Australia has a wonderful and unique opportunity to flip contemporary practice on its head in the way we support people with a disability. Through greater flexibility and openness to doing things differently, Australia now has the ‘blank canvass’ to be world leading pioneers of new and innovative approaches and product developments to significantly improve the lives of people with a disability.

Currently across the nation there is a distinct gap with the lack of evidence based research and development being translated into action. Through adopting a grassroots “blank canvass” approach to leading the research agenda, Onemda’s Therapy & Innovation Centre aims to address this gap through a unique co-design approach.

Onemda has already forged a number of exciting partnerships with the university sector both here in Victoria and interstate along with a number of assistive technology companies.

We are thrilled and proud of this Centre, which provides a place to collaborate, challenge and ignite new ways of doing things, new ways of enablement, and new ways which promote independence and citizenship for people with a disability.
