BSBXDB501 Support staff members with disability in the workplace
BSBXDB501 describes the skills and knowledge required to support staff members with disability and address their workplace related needs. It involves coordinating additional support on an individualised level to ensure that staff members are able to perform to the full extent of their capabilities with minimal barriers to work.
The world of work is actively becoming more inclusive. Learners require new skills to contribute to open, diverse and supportive workplaces by helping others meet their potential.
This Learner guide promotes awareness of the needs of people with a disability and builds the problem-solving capacity required to ensure they obtain equal access to products or services.
The learning content covers a range of portable, job-ready skills, including:
• Consulting and establishing goals
• Identifying work challenges and providing reasonable adjustments
• Monitoring effectiveness of supports
It also explains the legislation and standards designed to advance the rights of people with a disability. The many workplace examples describe realistic scenarios in which staff members implement suitable support arrangements that work towards an inclusive work culture.
